Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore Taiwanese nursing students’ learning experience in designing interactive picture books about orthopedic patient care.
Methods: This study used hermeneutic phenomenology as the research method, sampled 8 nursing students, conducted in-depth interviews, and summarized until the data reached saturation. The process included participant observation, reflective diary writing, peer verification to enhance the reliability of the research.
Results: The study found that the learning experience of nursing students in designing interactive picture books to care for orthopedic patients is as follows: (1) the first step is the hardest; (2) focus on the goal; (3) Discover strengths and weaknesses ;(4) teamwork collaboration; (5) communicate and empathy;(6) No pain, no gain;(7) Bing Image Creator; (8) Teaching others teaches yourself.
Conclusion: Research shows that guiding students to design interactive picture books can provide nursing students with a positive learning experience. It also reversed the past nursing guidance method. Future research can explore patients' satisfaction and knowledge about nursing guidance after receiving interactive picture books.
