Abstract:

Background: Reward should be correlated with effort to prevent effort reward imbalance (ERI) to maintain   safety climate for staff nurses. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between effort reward imbalance and safety climate among staff nurses.

Method: A descriptive correlational research design was used in the current study. A convenience sample of 209 staff nurses   were included in the study. This study was conducted at all in patient's medical surgical units at Kafr elsheikh University hospital.

Results: It revealed that there is statistical significant difference between effort related reward and safety climate r =0.760*.

Conclusion: Effort-reward imbalance is more prevalent among staff nurses. So, it is should be prevented to foster safety climate in the healthcare organizations.

Recommendation: healthcare organizations should emphasis a balance between effort  and reward  to maintain safety climate
