Healthcare Robotics

Healthcare Robotics focuses on the expanding use of robotic technologies to support clinical tasks, monitoring, diagnostics, rehabilitation, logistics, and surgical precision. As robots become more integrated into healthcare settings, nurses play an essential role in adapting workflows, supporting patient comfort, and ensuring safe human–robot collaboration. This session examines different types of healthcare robots—assistive robots, telepresence robots, exoskeletons, surgical robots, cleaning and disinfection robots, and automated transport systems. Participants at the Healthcare Conference will explore how robotics enhances efficiency and safety. Concepts from nursing robotic-assistance practice enrich this session by emphasizing nurse-centered integration strategies.

Robotics supports many aspects of care delivery. This session discusses how robots perform repetitive or physically demanding tasks such as lifting, repositioning, transporting supplies, or delivering medications—reducing injuries and freeing nurses for more complex care. Participants will consider how robotic-assisted rehabilitation helps patients regain mobility through consistent, data-driven movements, while surgical robots increase precision and reduce recovery time. Telepresence robots are highlighted for supporting remote consultations, family communication, and specialist access in underserved areas.

The session also examines how human–robot interaction affects acceptance and trust. Nurses will explore strategies for orienting patients to robotic devices, addressing fears, and ensuring culturally sensitive communication. The session discusses how robots must supplement—not replace—therapeutic relationships and how nurses maintain human warmth in technology-rich environments.
